SHILLONG, DEC 14: A delegation led by Tura Lok Sabha MP Mr Conrad K Sangma briefed the union finance minister Arun Jaitley on utilisation of the Special Assistance that was given to GHADC, the administrative and financial reforms taking place with the help of Center for Good Governance and the need for more financial assistance strengthened the GHADC.

Conrad delegation consisted of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) members including Thomas A Sangma former Rajya Sabha MP, Boston Ch Marak Chairman GHADC, Wenison Ch Marak EM In-charge revenue and Kurosh M Marak EM In-charge taxation.

The delegation met Jaitley in the parliament and briefed him about the functioning of the GHADC.

The delegation also informed Jaitley about the current Impact of demonetisation in Meghalaya and the north east as a whole and urged the minister for more intervention keeping in mind the festive Christmas season as majority of the population was Christian and urged if steps could be taken to give more relief to the people of the region.

Jaitley response was said to be positive and assured that all possible help and support would be given. The delegation also called on Jitendra Singh minister in the PMO and DoNER and briefed him about the same issues faced by the people of Meghalaya and North Eastern region during the festive season and also the situation in GHADC. Singh too was supportive and assured of all possible help and support.
