Conrad ask Kharshiing to look up merger rules

Shillong, August 27: Even as Conrad Sangma said that the merger of the NCP with the National People’s Party (NPP) is in progress, he refuted the perception of former Rajya Sabha MP and NCP north east observer Robert Kharshiing that for legal recognition of the merger there has to be a split of the political party at the national level.

Sangma also referred to past precedence that took place in Meghalaya on the merger of political parties.

Sangma asserted that the “merger does not have to be at national level as long as there is two-third majority which can be recognized by the legislative assembly.

Speaking to reporter Monday, Sangma instead advised by saying, “ I would suggested to the leaders who make such comments to first read and understand the rules of the constitution properly, look at past cases that these kind of merger had taken place before.”

Conrad Sangma pointed out to the precedent that took place earlier on in Meghalaya as well as in other states.

Speaking about the process of merger he said it was in progress and will take some time before they are officially recognized as members of NPP. Explaining the process he informed that it is a lengthy one involving merger at the block level, district level, state level, and even at the MLA level.- By Our Reporter

GUARDIANNEWS BUREAU

SHILLONG, AUG 27: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) today held the successive Governments both at the Centre and in Assam responsible for the problem of influx of “illegal immigrants” in the metros and Assam besides accusing them as the reason behind the mass exodus of NE people from the metros.

“The crisis in Assam is not communal. What had happened in Mumbai is not communal. The conflict is between Nationalists (peoples of Indian origin) and foreigners,” N S Kohli, a senior national functionary of the BJP told reporters.

Protesting infiltration of foreigners into the country, Kohli charged the Congress of practicing vote bank politics which resulted in unwanted situations.

Justifying Kohli’s statement, Raj Purohit, Mumbai BJP President alleged that there are nine lakh Bangladeshis residing in pockets in Mumbai.

“Bangladeshis are to be blamed for what had happened on August 11 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. But we can’t pick and throw them. The government has failed due to the vote bank politics,” Purohit said.

Assuring that due task is taken against the guilty, the party leader said, “Action is being taken against the guilty… those who were involved in spreading anti-national messages and those who were involved in the physical attack.”

Parents, guardians and students should not be discouraged to return to their workplace whether it is in Mumbai or Karnataka.

He said these places are safe and everything is normal, adding that the party has set up help lines to assist anyone in crisis.

The party delegation which is led by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka had also met Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi yesterday and was assured of a special train to Bangalore on September 1 from Guwahati to facilitate the return of young students and professionals.
