COVID-19 cases witness a dip in Meghalaya, 14 deaths

SHILLONG, MAY 31: Fourteen more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday taking the death toll in the state to 578.

 

According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 9 deaths were reported in East Khasi Hills district, 2 in Ri Bhoi district and 1 each in South West Garo Hills district and South West Khasi Hills district.

 

The state has also witnessed improvement in the situation with the dip in the fresh cases and increase in the recovery rate.

 

Only 408 fresh cases were detected as on Monday.

 

Dr War said the new cases include 272 in East Khasi Hills, 48 Ri Bhoi, 31 West Jaintia Hills, 23 West Garo Hills, 13 East Jaintia Hills, 9 North Garo Hills, 4 West Khasi Hills, 3 South West Garo Hills, 2 East Garo Hills, 2 South Garo Hills and 1 South West Khasi Hills.

 

He also informed that as many as 977 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.

 

Of these, 519 are from East Khasi Hills, 278 Ri Bhoi, 55 West Garo Hills, 31 North Garo Hills, 28 East Jaintia Hills, 23 South West Garo Hills, 13 South West Khasi Hills, 11 West Khasi Hills, 10 East Garo Hills and 9 North Garo Hills.

 

So far, the state has detected a total of 35,598 COVID-19 cases out of which 6,913 are active cases, 28,107 recovered and 578 deaths.

 

With 3,3,183 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 1,010 cases.

 

There are 639 cases in West Garo Hills, 563 West Jaintia Hills, 397 South West Garo Hills, 231 East Jaintia Hills, 290 South West Khasi Hills, 171 West Khasi Hills, 168 North Garo Hills, 140East Garo Hills and 121 South Garo Hills.

 

On the other hand, of the 5,75,001 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 5,39,403 were tested negative for the virus even as 1,223 persons are in institutional quarantine and 5,690 under home quarantine.

 

There are 1,20,720 entrants from outside the state.

 

29,688 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,558 had received the second dose, while 86,612 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 26,495 got the second dose as on Monday.

 

Moreover, 2,74,455 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 28,286 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
