SHILLONG, AUG 7: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) today strongly condemned the South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai for allegedly manhandled a woman in his residence recently.

“We condemn the manhandling of a woman, H Passah, by Shullai on the August 4, at Bishnupur, where he literally held her strongly and threw her out of his office,” CSWO chief Agnes Kharshiing said in a statement issued here on Monday.

She said the CSWO also condemns his communal acts of kicking and throwing out the Non-Tribal candidates, who hailed from the neighbouring states,  on the August 2, from the Guest House of H Passah,  who have come for a recruitment drive organised by the army in Shillong.

“Such inhuman acts by a sitting legislator are unexpected and shall not be tolerated in the civilized society,” Kharshiing said.

She demanded that the authorities should take stern action against the erring MLA as per the law of the land, so as to also deter others in power from committing such inhuman acts in future, as the law is expected to be equal for everyone, irrespective of power or status.

The CSWO also suggests that the Army authorities should provide at least entry to candidates who come from far into the army area, for the night, as they call thousands of candidates in a day which is impossible for accommodating outside.

The campus should be made accessible with proper toilets for such large recruitment drives. on humanitarian grounds.
