CSWO: Pay MTC staff salary

SHILLONG, DEC 8: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) has demanded that the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) authority to speed up the release of the pending salaries of its staff besides reviewing the manner of promotions and appointments.  “We would soon meet the Managing  Director of the MTC and urge him that the pay of the MTC staff should immediately be released and also follow procedures of rules laid down in promotions and appointments , so that promotion is also given to the junior staff equally,” CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said in a statement on Sunday.

Kharshiing informed that it has come to the notice that the government has been neglecting the welfare of the staff of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC), especially the lower grades and giving more preference to filling up of post of Deputy General Manager.

Kharshiing also said that the staff of the MTC has not been getting their pay for the past 5 months.

In 2010,  the MTC MD brought out a circular dated 12.11.2010, inviting applications from UD assistants and LD assistants for promotion to the post of Asstt Depot Managers and many eligible staff had applied, but unfortunately someone interestingly stalled the whole promotion proceedings with excuses that there were no funds, Kharshiing said.

Kharshiing also informed that surprisingly there is a Departmental Promotion Committee meeting on the December 10 to probably discuss the filling up of the post of Deputy General Manager by promotion and post of Superintendent from Senior UD Asst, the  filling up of Foreman post and to discuss regularization of MTC staff  she said is a move to mainly provide promotion to the high ranking officers thereby neglecting the junior staff and denying them of their salary, She also said it is most likely to regularize illegally staff not appointed through proper procedures. – By Our Reporter
