Darly: Cong Tura nominee

SHILLONG, MAR 8:  Daryl William Cheran Momin, grandson of the first Meghalaya chief minister (L) Capt WA Sangma, will be the Congress candidate for the Tura Lok Sabha seat.  The AICC cleared his name on Saturday night even as the party candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat is yet to be decided.

Congress sources said that the candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat will be given in the second list soon.

Besides sitting Shillong Lok Sabha MP Vincent H Pala, state government’s chief whip Ronnie V Lyngdoh, party member John F Kharshiing and former assembly speaker Charles Pyngrope are also in the fray for the party ticket.

On Saturday night there was a goof-up in the list of candidates released by the AICC for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The AICC list contains the name of Meghalaya sports minister Zenith Sangma instead of Daryl William Cheran Momin sending many people in tizzy.

But sources said that the ticket had been allotted to Momin. Sources from the state Congress said, “This is a goof up as the party ticket for the Tura Lok Sabha seat has been allotted to Daryl William Cheran Momin and not Zenith Sangma. The error in the list will be corrected tomorrow.”-By Our Reporter
