Day 3: 39 KHADC aspirants file papers

SHILLONG, FEB 7: Meghalaya assembly deputy speaker Sanbor Shullai, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief executive member Pynshngainlang N Syiem, his deputy Remington Pyngrope, Nongkrem legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit, former MDP chief Martil M Mukhim besides four women filed their nominations for the ensuing February 24 district council elections.

The third day of filing of nomination papers from East Khasi hills district saw as many as over 31 candidates from different political parties – Congress, United Democratic Party (UDP), Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP), Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), National People’s Party (NPP) and independents- filing their papers with returning officer in the office of East Khasi hills deputy commissioner.

From the Congress, apart from sitting CEM PN Syiem who is contesting from Mawsynram constituency, others who filed their nominations are Rocky Hek, the nephew of state health minister AL Hek from Mawkhar for Pynthorumkhrah and Theddius Mawrie from Nongthymmai constituencies.

Rocky was accompanied by his uncle Hek and home minister Roshan Warjri beside his supporters.

As many as seven candidates from the HSPDP came to file their nomination papers on Friday.

Apart from Ardent, the others include two sitting women MDCs – Grace Kharpuri (who recently resigned from the post of Executive Member (EM) Education) from Nongskhen and Teilinia Thangkhiew from Mylliem constituencies, veteran politician and former minister Martil M Mukhim, who recently give up his own party (Meghalaya Democratic Party (MDP) and joined HSPDP to contest from Mawkynrew constituency, Tamdor Risaw from Mawsynram, Panbor Ryntathiang from Mawlai and Banry Wahlang from Laban – Mawprem constituency were the others who filed their papers from the party.

Seven UDP candidates also filed their papers– Deputy CEM, Remington Pyngrope from Mawkynrew, Anthony Nongbri (former Journalist) from Laitumkhrah – Malki, Batskhem Marbaniang from Mawsynram, Krispin Rynthong from Mawkhar – Pynthorumkhrah, David Kharsati from Sohryngkham and Wankupar Syiemlieh from Nongspung Sohiong.

Two are from the NCP – sitting MDC Sanbor Shullai from Laban-Mawprem and Meristila Wahlang from Laitumkhrah – Malki constituencies.

From the KHNAM those who came file their papers are sitting MDC Latiplang Kharkongor from Nongthymmai, Probiti Nongpluh from Laitumkhrah – Malki and Loius Dohtdong from Mawkynrew constituencies.

Two Independent candidates – Banpynshngainlang Rumnong from Mawkhar – Pynthorumkhrah and Kenny D Kharkongor from Sohryngkham besides an NPP candidate Suly Lyngdoh from Mawsynram constituencies were among those who filed their papers.

NONGPOH: Altogether eight candidates filed their nominations for the KHADC polls from Ri-Bhoi district. Five of those candidates belong to the UDP, one Independent candidate and two from HSPDP party.

UDP candidates include Rona Khymdeit from Nongpoh, Donkupar Sumer from Umsning, Kior Singh Hinge from Umroi, Balawan Syiemiong from Jirang and BK Tmung from Mawhati constituencies.

Others who filed their papers included an Independent Hilarius Marbaniang from Umsning and two from HSPDP P Sylliang from Umroi and Nosy Lyngdoh from Jirang constituencies.- By Our Reporter
