SHILLONG, MAR 4: People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) parliamentary party leader Process Treasure Sawkmie termed Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) president Pyndapbor Saibon allegations against him over switching from KHNAM to PDF as “Pyndapbor’s Propaganda Politics” even as he asserted that he quit KHNAM because of poor ‘leadership quality’.
Sawkmie told reporters on Wedesday, “All these allegations levelled against me is just ‘Pyndapbor’s propaganda politics.”
Sawkmie was reacting to the allegations made Saibon that he had resigned from the All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA) EC to join the newly formed opposition alliance PDF to facilitate uranium mining in West Khasi hills District following request of state government to the KHADC for handing over the 20 kilometers road from Wahkaji
Sawkmie reacted by saying that he is completely unaware of the Rs 324 uranium project of the Centre. He rather questioned, “When was this issue raised in the executive committee, I am not aware.” He informed that all he knows is that the EC had proposed to conduct a spot inspection of the place.
Sawkmie, however, said, “But we as the PDF have decided that the new executive committee led by us will ensure that there is no uranium mining taking place in the jurisdiction of the Khasi hills region. We will not allow this.”
Sawkmie informed that he resigned from KHNAM and ARPA because of leadership quality. He said , “If you compare the capacity of Pyndap (KHNAM president) and the leadership in the PDF the difference is heaven and earth.” He remarked that “Pyndap is not even an MDC.”
On the pledged that he made before the freedom fighters, Sawkmie said, “I did swore in front of the freedom fighters but I did it not of my will but was just following the party (KHNAM)’s orders.”
Saibon had also alleged that Sawkmie suffered from a ‘defection disease’. He was referring to Sawkmie defecting from UDP, MDP, KHNAM and now joined PDF.
Sawkmie reacted to this by saying, “I resigned from the KHNAM due to leadership quality and from UDP due to compulsion of politics,” adding “I strongly refute to the KHNAM’s allegation that I am a betrayal and backstabber of the indigenous community. This is totally wrong as I am in politics for 10 years and I have not betrayed the indigenous community. I am here to serve them.”
Sawkmie said the allegations made by Saibon only indicate the immaturity as a leader.
Regarding Saibon allegation that he is hungry for power hunger, Sawkmie retorted by saying, “In fact who is hunger for power people knows. The fact is that there is no wealth to gain from the district council.”
Sawkmie alleged that Saibon is afraid of the present political development as he might lose a check gate at 14th Mile, Ri Bhoi which has being contracted to him. He said that the people of Mawlai knows better about him as he is here to serve the indigenous community.- By Our Reporter
