Marak worries Cong debacle

SHILLONG, DEC 9: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee  (MPCC) working president Deborah Marak said that the reasons for the debacle of the Congress in the recently concluded assembly election is a warning to the Congress party even as she admitted that its main political rival BJP did the homework well and emerged a winner.

Except for Mizoram where the Congress retain power, it lost in all the four states- New Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh- sending the party leaders into a tizzy. Coming just a few months before the Lok Sabha elections which is slated to be held early next year, the anti-Congress wave in the four states have many Congress leaders worried including in Meghalaya.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Marak also said that the party accepts the result of the elections as there are always ups and downs in politics.  She, however, felt that the another reason for the debacle of the country’s oldest party  in the four states election was the over confidence of the party as the Congress campaigned while the BJP did their homework perfectly.

Saying that the results of the four assembly elections are not good for the Congress, Marak said the party needs to work harder to be able to send its message across to the voters.

In New Delhi, Congress managed only 8 seats against 32 seats of the BJP won 32 seats, in Madhya Pradesh Congress won only 58 seats while BJP secured 165 seats.

In Chattisgarh, Congress got 39 seats even as BJP was ahead as it got 49 seats.  In Rajasthan the Congress was totally wiped out as it got only 21 seats but the BJP won 162 seats.- By Our Reporter
