SHILLONG, NOV 10: Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said the decision to demonetization Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency would not only check corruption and black money but it will also stop terror funding and circulation of fake currency notes.

Rijiju  informed that the home ministry has been facing the challenge of black money   and terror funding for a long time and the decision to ban the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes will help in fighting these two menaces in the country.

Rijijju also assured that the union government has directed all the banks to ensure that they reach out to the people in the remote parts of the country including NE region following the centre decision to  demonetization Rs 500 & Rs 1000 currency.

“We have already asked all the bank branches to ensure that they should go further deep in terms of reaching out to the people. We need to expand the reach of the banks so that people are linked with the financial system easily,” Rijiju told reporters at a sideline of a function.

Rijijiju said the Reserve Bank of India has already made certain decision to ensure that branches are opened in various administrative centres or locations in the remote areas of the country.

Reacting to chief minister Mukul Sangma attack on the PM decision terming the demonetization as ‘complete insensitive’ move, Rijiju said initially inconveniences will be there but one must accept this strong therapy to deal with the menace of black money, corruption and terror funding.

“So if you expect that everything will go smoothly it will not be so. The good citizens are bearing with us and it is only some of the people because of whom the black money has been generated in this country and promoting corruption, only that person and group of people are having problem,” he added.

Moreover, Rijiju further maintained that the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes will not be idle as they will be given back to the banks and will be the asset of the owner adding the prime minister have announced about the various relaxation being given on this matter.

Calling the decision of the BJP lead NDA coalition government as ‘historical step’ Rijiju said it will break the bones of the terrorist organizations and the people who are funding the cartel.-By Our Reporter
