Don’t leave job because of Aadhaar: MPCA

SHILLONG, NOV 14: The Meghalaya People’s Committee on Aadhaar (MPCA) which is spearheading the “opt-out of Aadhaar campaign” in the state, today appealed to people not to resort to job resignation.

“We humbly request to a few others not to resort to job resignation out of the desire not to have anything to do with Aadhaar while for some, not to exploit the situation through misinformation and disinformation,” MPCA convener Rev PBM Basaiawmoit said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

The committee also urged upon all concerned not to push in any manner for Aadhaar enrolment including banks, mobile companies, institutions and instead await for the final hearing and ruling of Supreme Court on the Aadhaar issue.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,566 persons from across the six districts of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region have decided to opt out from Aadhaar enrolment during the campaign which was launched on October 30.

According to Basaiawmoit, these are those who already have Aadhaar cards and numbers due to one reason or the other but now are desirous to, forthwith, delink themselves from Aadhaar.

Of these, he said 426 individual letters were sent by ordinary post last week and 932 letters were sent by speed post in two separate packages. 208 more will be sent tomorrow by speed post.

“This is an honest and humble attempt with the hope that UIDAI will respond positively to the request made individually or that the Supreme Court Bench will include opting out in its final ruling on Aadhaar,” Basaiawmoit said.

The committee also expressed its deep appreciation and encouragement to all those who have sent letters to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for opting out or withdrawal from Aadhaar enrolment.

It also lauded the volunteers at Shillong, Nongstoin and Mawkyrwat for giving of time and energy for more than two weeks to facilitate and assist all those who came to the KSU offices at Shillong, Nongstoin and Mawkyrwat to send letters for opting out from Aadhaar enrolment.
