Edu-policy in final stage

SHILLONG, NOV 28: Meghalaya deputy chief minister- in charge education-RC Laloo on Friday informed that the State Education Policy is in its final stage but certain modifications have to be made because of the Right to Education (RTE).

Replying to a supplementary question raised by HSPDP legislator KP Pangniang during the question hour on Friday, Laloo said, “We have already put it for views from different stakeholders as desired by the department. But with the coming of the RTE, we have to make certain modification.” L.

Informing the house that the centre is also coming up with a new education policy, Laloo said, “We are also waiting for this new policy of the centre before we come up with the state’s education policy.”

Earlier, Laloo said that in view of the fund constraints faced, the government was not being able to bring more schools under the deficit grant in aid system.  He however assured the house that the moment the state is comfortable with its financial position, it will be able to consider the proposal of bringing more schools under the deficit system.

Replying to supplementary by Independent legislator Saleng A Sangma who enquired what might happen to the teachers under the SSA once the scheme ended, Laloo said that he had not come across such proposal on the scheme.- By Our Reporter
