Eleven shops close down

SHILLONG, JULY 4: Eleven shops were closed down by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) enforcement wing on Friday in Iewduh after the shops failed to obtain the necessary trading license.

The KHADC enforcement wing has been on a drive to close down shops that are functioning illegally without obtaining the necessary trading license from KHADC.

“We have closed down 11 illegal business establishments owned by non-indigenous people after they were found running without the trading license which is mandatory as per the law,” KHADC executive member in charge Trade, Latiplang Kharkongor told reporters.

Apart from closing the shops, the enforcement officials also seized the items of three hawkers who were operating their businesses without the trading license during the drive.

Kharkongor said, “The council has also recently incorporated 19 new rules in the existing Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation Act to further prevent illegal trading by non-indigenous people in the jurisdiction of the council.”

Kharkongor said the council has also directed the need to conduct inspection even on those shops who have failed to renew their trading licenses. “We will immediately cancel all such licenses,” he added.

Kharkongor also asserted that the executive committee is committed to ensure that all illegal shops are closed down and are not allowed to operate in the council’s jurisdiction without obtaining the trading license.”

So far, the KHADC has closed down a total of 52 such illegal shops.- By Our Reporter
