SHILLONG, JAN 24: As the threat perception to him and his supporters from the GNLA has increased, Meghalaya community & rural development minister Saleng M Sangma-who has been denied the Congress ticket- has sought extension of security cover to his close aides and also in his constituency in Gambegre.
Sangma is already placed in “Z” category security cover after he narrowly escaped the attempt of militants to blow up powerful IEDs on the road he was suppose to travel to Kherapara area of his constituency. Recently one of the three supporters who were shot by the GNLA militants succumbed to his injury.
The militants had also lobbed a hand grenade in his Ringgregittim residence in Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills in December.
After meeting Naik, Sangma told reporters, “I have requested the CEO to extend security cover due to the GNLA anti-social activities against me and my supporters.”- By Our Reporter
