SHILLONG, OCT 9: Meghalaya chief secretary PBO Warjri underscored the importance of promoting entrepreneurship in the state but also added that there is a need to gather information and facts on the subject so that suitable strategies could be evolved to promote entrepreneurship among the youths.

Addressing the inaugural session of the “Workshop on Promoting Entrepreneurship in Meghalaya: Way Forward” on Wednesday at Hotel Polo Towers organised by the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Meghalaya in collaboration with the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship (MIE) and the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) Warjri said that there is a need to identify the problems and strengths in this field so as to promote entrepreneurship.

Warjri opined that the workshop would shed light on how the government should proceed forward in promoting entrepreneurship in the state.

The workshop was organised to strategize and roll out a workable plan to implement the ADB sponsored project on Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya C&RD department principal secretary KN Kumar in his opening remark informed that under the ADB project the skills of 45000 youths between the age group of 18 – 35 years would be developed to enhance their employability in the job markets and the capacities of another 15000 of them would be built to set up enterprises.

Kumar said that the aim of the workshop is to learn from everyone and evolve suitable strategies to equip the unemployed in order to ensure livelihood in the state.

Meghalaya planning department Commissioner & Secretary P Jain shared insights of the ADB project for promoting entrepreneurship and steps that are being taken by the government to promote entrepreneurs through the Enterprise Facilitation Centres (EFC).

During the day long workshop various experts from various renown institutions and agencies of India and line departments of the state made their presentations and  thorough deliberations also took place on how to  move forward to provide skill development for promoting entrepreneurs in the state.- By Our Reporter
