Ex-JHADC chief to contest from TMC

SHILLONG, OCT 22: Two-time MDC from Jowai Central Awhai Andrew Shullai on Saturday announced his decision to contest from the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) for upcoming 2023 Assembly elections from Jowai constituency.

He had won the MDC elections on a Congress ticket.

Speaking to reporters, Shullai said that he has decided to contest from the TMC after seeing the various difficulties faced by the people especially the poor and the downtrodden in the past four and a half years  under the present MDA government led by the National People’s Party (NPP).

“However the coming of the AITC has given a ray of hope to the state since it is a party which works to serve the poor people and the downtrodden. This is the only party which can ensure overall development of the state. Therefore, I have decided to contest from the TMC in 2023,” he said.

Earlier, Shullai had approached the United Democratic Party (UDP) for a ticket. However, the UDP West Jaintia Hills District had already recommended the name of former JHADC chief Moonlight Pariat as the official candidate of the party.
