Ex ULFA porter arrested

SHILLONG, OCT 7: A former United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) porter and two Bangladeshi smugglers were nabbed in separate operations launched by the BSF along the Indo-Bangla border of West Garo hills and South West Khasi hills districts.

The former ULFA porter identified as Romal Marak (20) was apprehended while he was ex-filtrating from India to Bangladesh, BSF officials said.  A mobile and Indian currency was recovered from his possession.

During preliminary interrogation, Marak, who is hails from Hariykona under Sherpur district in Bangladesh, revealed that earlier he used to help the ULFA cadres in cross border movements and provide the basic amenities but now he was involved in petty smuggling.

Meanwhile, BSF also apprehended two Bangladeshi smugglers identified as Abdul Haque (20) and a minor boy with wooden boat, two phones and 2,930 Bangladesh Taka while they were infiltrating into Indian territory from Bangladesh at Gumaghat, South West Khasi hills.

It was revealed that the arrested were involved in smuggling of coal from India to Bangladesh through Jadukata river.- By Our Reporter
