Shillong, August 20: A twenty something, with curly hair and a t-shirt written “ You are not the boss to me” strolled nonchalantly looking at the art works and photographs on display at the “Metropolis” art and photography exhibition held at Shillong Club on Sunday.
The lad epitomized the works of the artists and photographers, creative yet free from the shackles of fear, as many who displayed either their paintings or photographs would like us to think. One of the art works cried against AFSPA ’’ imposed in parts of north eastern states, while another seems to mock America for its “big brother attitude.”
The one-day exhibition organised by Curves & ShadesMetropolis along with the Shillong based The Small Arts Projectshowcased the work of fifteen artists and photographers from north east. It even had on display works of the “Seeking Kali Collection” from USA, Belgium and Canada.
Considering that the artists and photographers are all under thirty years and some fresh out of the college, the exhibition was pretty “ cool”, to borrow the lingo of the x-generation. Dipanker Singha- The Small Arts Project founder member said, “This exhibition is held once or even twice a year in different parts of the north east. This is the first time that the exhibition is being held in Shillong.”
The atmosphere in the exhibition was artistic to the core, with not only paintings and photographs at display, but even live music with two local bands dishing out favourite numbers.- By Our Reporter
