SHILLONG, MAY 28: Unable to meet the medical expenses of treating his three children who are all suffering from “Thalesemia”, Abdul Rahim has decided to approach the Meghalaya high court with a strange but grave permission to end his and the children’s life.

Sixteen years ago when three of his children  were first diagnosed with Thalesemia- a blood disorder disease-  Rahim who is   shoe merchant sold off his shoe factory in the city, a shop and landed properties for the treatment of his children. The expenses amounted to Rs 45, 000 per month.

However sixteen years down the line, Rahim is finding it difficult to meet the medical expenses of his three children since he had already disposed off whatever he had earlier.

Rahim- who is originally from Assam but is residing in Meghalaya- is in such a desperate situation that he gave a media conference at the Shillong Press Club on Tuesday and announced his decision to approach the high court with the permission to kill his children and also commit suicide himself.

Even as his three children are undergoing treatment at Guwahati hospital now, Rahim told reporters, “I can no longer see my children suffering. I have nothing left but to seek permission from the High Court to take my children’s lives also to commit suicide,”

.
As a last ditch effort before approaching the high court to seek permission for such a grave permission, Rahim appealed to the state government of Assam and Meghalaya to extend medical assistance to his children and said if the assistance was not forthcoming he had no other option but to go ahead with his plan.- By Our Reporter
