SHILLONG, AUG 13: Meghalaya Democratic Party (MDP) Dienglieng block leaders and party workers joined the Congress just before the upcoming 2014 MDC elections in the state.

MDP Mawkynrew block president Klip Lynshing  told reporters on Tuesday, “We decided to join the Mawkynrew Block Congress Committee to strengthen the party at the Mawkynrew block level to ensure victory of the Congress in the upcoming MDC election next year.”

Lynshing said that leadership crisis in the MDP party is one of the main reasons that led the members to join the Congress party. He said, “After 2003, the MDP under the leadership of Martle Mukhim has not been able to performance in the 2008 MLA election and even in the recent 2013 election.”

Lynshing informed that MDP party leaders from Mawkynrew had earlier suggested to Mukhim that the party should merged with the Congress. He, however, lamented saying “But the suggestion was turned down by the MDP president.”

Informing that the party leaders and workers then decided to resign from the MDP and join the Congress Lynshing justified joining the national party by saying that it is the only stable party which and can ensure development in the region.

Lynshing along with three others members of the MDP joined the Congress party in presence of the MBCC president and vice president, Teilang Blah and Kansing Lynshing.

Lynshing also revealed that following meetings with the party workers of the MDP, another 20 members have expressed their willingness to join the Congress.

MBCC president Teilang Blah said, “We welcome the members of MDP party to the Congress.”

Blah said the MDP members who joined the Congress are the strong supporters who had ensure many victories to the MDP party in the past years when the party was at its peak. He said with them now joining Congress the party will further be strengthen in the forthcoming MDC elections in the state.” .- By Our Reporter
