Four days film carnival in Shillong city

SHILLONG, FEB 19: The union government’s Directorate of Film Festival in collaboration with Meghalaya Information & Public Relations (MIPR) department is organizing a four days Indian Panorama Film Festival (IPFF) in Shillong. The film festival will be held at U Soso Tham auditorium from March 3 to 6.

Indian Panorama Film director Shankar Mohan said on Wednesday that the Meghalaya government should start film related courses for the young talents of the state and boost developing the film industry in Meghalaya.

The union government and the Meghalaya government wants to promote Meghalaya as the most preferred film making destination in the country and that is the reason for holding the film festival. This is the second edition of the film festival being held in Shillong as the first was held last year.

MIPR director HM Shangpliang informed that the film festival will be inaugurated by Meghalaya government KK Paul.

During the announcement of the film festival in a news conference on Wednesday, Mohan said it is high time for Meghalaya to have its own indigenous film making industry and boost the state’s economy by spreading its culture. He said this can happen only through the medium of culture.

The MIPR and the Directorate of Film Festival have also included a workshop aimed at promoting Meghalaya as one of the most preferred destination for film making.

As many as 11 films in seven different languages – Hindi, English, Khasi, Manipuri and others which have received national award will be screen during the festival.

The Khasi film “Ka Lad” by G Syiem and D Lyngdoh, Coffin Maker, Bhag Milga Bhag are among the eleven films that will be screened during the four days film festival.

Film celebrities like Raj Om Prakash director of Bhag Milga Bhag besides Bollywood actors Farhan Khan and Abhey Doel are expected to attend the film festival.

K Hariharan from the LV Prasad Film Academy, Chennai will be conducting the workshop on cinematography, videography and acting. – By Our Reporter
