Four GNLA arrested

SHILLONG, NOV 17: Four hardcore civilian cadres of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were today arrested along with ammunition by police from Chandmari area of Tura, in West Garo hills, police said.

They have been recruited by the GNLA leader Sohan D Shira for arms smuggling from Dimapur for the outfit.

The arrested have been identified as Nobin D Sangma (64) of Nidanpur near Tikrikilla, Peirai Hao (40) of Perin district, Nagaland, Livingstone Ch Marak (28) of Williamnagar and Balgranj R Marak (24) of Nengmandal, Williamnagar.

Police have recovered 12 rounds of AK ammunition, one GNLA demand note and Rs 1.50 lakh from their possession.

“ Peirai Hao is from NSCN (K) who recently got released on bail from Tura jail. He is the main linkman to negotiate and arrange arms from NSCN faction to GNLA,” Inspector General of Police GHP Raju said.

He informed that Nobin, along with his wife and others, go to Nagaland as family members and smuggle weapons in the personal car of Nobin, who disclosed that police never suspect nor check vehicles travelling with family.

He (Nobin) has also confessed that three days ago, he and his wife brought two AK rifles from Dimapur and delivered to Sohan. He also disclosed that many Naga militants sell arms and ammunition from Dimapur. One has to know the right persons in Dimapur, even rocket launchers are also available from Dimapur, Raju said.-By Our Reporter
