SHILLONG, AUG 13: Shillong is all geared up to celebrate the Independence Day on August 15 with great pomp and gaiety as the day will be marked with festivity right from the ceremonial parade in Polo ground at 9 am followed by other colourful events right through the day.
East Khasi hills deputy commissioner PS Dkhar told newsmen during a media conference on Thursday that altogether there will be 22 marching contingents and 2 bands taking part besides cultural programme during the ceremonial parade at Polo ground on August 15.
Dkhar was confident that Independence Day celebration will be a peaceful one and said many programme is lined up for all age groups. He there will be a football match of the women final football tournament as part of the celebrations and to caters to the football lovers of the city .
In the afternoon, Dkhar informed that there will events for children like the sit and draw competition at the RK Mission, Quinton Road and fancy dress competition.
For the music lovers a rock concert will be held featuring rock bands like 4th Element, Symphonic Illusions, Kubicles, Colours, Light after Dark differently abled children, at Khyndailad.
Dkhar said, “Show will also feature Meghalaya Got Talent participants and finalists besides choir by Jyoti Sroat School.”
Dkhar informed that there will be distribution of flags, sweets, caps, jalebies and puris in Khyndialad besides setting up of play corner.
Altogether, there will be 33 stalls at food court even as Dkhar informed free cinema shows will start from 11 am in four cinemas halls of the city.
He said elaborate security arrangement has being made to ensure that everything goes off smoothly during the Independence Day celebration.- By Our Reporter
