Ganja worth Rs 3 crore seized

IMG-20170928-WA0034SHILLONG, SEPT 28: In a big catch, the customs sleuths has seized ganja worth over Rs 3 crore from a truck at a village along the national highway-44 in East Khasi Hills District.

Acting on specific inputs, officials of the Customs Headquarters, Preventive Unit, Shillong intercepted the truck bearing Nagaland registration number at Puriang near Mawryngkneng village.

A total of 2068.340 kgs of ganja concealed in a specially built chamber behind the driver’s cabin was recovered and seized.

Deputy Commissioner (Hqrs.Prev) Dr Prakash Borgohain said the ganja and the truck were seized and a case has been registered under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985.

The total value of the seizure is Rs 3.17 crore, he said while informing that the driver of the truck was also arrested.

He said that preliminary investigation suggests that the consignment of ganja was coming from Agartala and was destined for Siliguri via Guwahati. Further investigation is on, Borgohain added.
