Darkness in GH hit students

SHILLONG, MAR 15: The frequent power cuts in Garo hills and the inconvenience cause to the students who are appearing for the ongoing SSLC and HSSLC examinations was raised in the assembly on Friday with South Tura Independent legislator John Leslee K Sangma demanding that the government must immediately addressing this problem.

Sangma told the assembly, “The failure of the government has affected the student’s community of the region. Therefore, we strongly demand government to act and ensure that power is restored in the Garo hills immediately.”

In recent years, Garo hills have been recorded the lowest pass percentage in the state, Sangma said adding, “Lack of power supply is the main factor attributed to this poor performance of the students in the region.” He even felt power failure affected students psychologically.

Sangma, also revealed to the house that Speaker AT Mondal did not want the opposition to raise the issue on the floor of the assembly as according to him Mondal had told them that the minister was not ready to discuss the issue. –By Our Reporter
