Garo muster rolls demand

SHILLONG, APR 6: The All Garo Hills Muster Roll Workers’ Union (AGHMRWU) on Wednesday demanded that the District Forest Officer (DFO) Territorial Division, Tura revoke the transfer order of 19 regular staffs.

“We demand the DFO to immediately revoke this transfer order within a day or two,” union’s assistant general secretary P Ch Marak warned in a statement issued on Wednesday.

He said that the union strongly opposed the recent transfer order issued by the DFO since most of 19 staffs are seniors with a status of regular casual worker (RCW).

“They are poor Muster Rolls and are working sincerely with a scanty wage,” Marak said adding “Despite promoting them, all the 19 staffs were given order of transfer into far flung areas of Garo Hills without prior information.”

He also said none of these 19 staffs are willing to accept the transfer order.

According to him, the reason for unwillingness to accept the transfer order is also because one of the forest muster rolls was shot by the log smugglers on the night of July 2014 at A’dokgre Range while performing his duty.

The union has also sought the intervention of the minister and top officials of the forest department into the issue.- By Our Reporter
