GHADC slams over salary delay

SHILLONG, AUG 17: Former chairman of the disbanded Achik National Volunteer Council – Breakaway (ANVC.B) Bernard N Marak today slammed the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for its failure to clear the pending salary of its employees for over 12 months.

In a statement issued here, Marak said, “If I were to run GHADC, I would have cleared the 12 months salary of the employees within 6 months.”

“It is sad to see that the Council, which was supposed to be strengthened and revamped through the Agreed Text for Settlement is sinking in financial crunch,” he said.

Marak alleged this is due to negligence of the elected leaders who according to him, made a fortune by misappropriating and missing the funds meant for all round development of Garo Hills through GHADC.

“The Agreed Text for Settlement promised improvement of the Council at various level but the greed of the people who got elected have ruin the aspirations of the people as a whole,” he said.

He said that the employees of the district council and the people of Garo Hills are made to go through difficult times due to lack of responsible leaders to man the Council.

Stating that the other factor which is destroying the Council is the intrusion of Political parties in the Council, he said “Political parties who run the Executive Committee works in the interest of the party and not the people in general.”

According to him, also Political manipulations bereaved the Council from becoming an autonomous traditional institution, turning it into a politically run institution.
