TURA, NOV 18: Meghalaya police arrested one identified as Malmepa, who is the right hand man of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) commander-in-chief Sohan D. Shira.

Malmepa was arrested from his residence at Williamnagar in East Garo hills on Wednesday. “Malmepa supplies food and other items to Sohan. He disclosed that he was looking after the properties of Sohan including his rubber garden, newly constructed house at Bawegre village, fish ponds etc”, said GHP Raju, inspector general of police (operations).

Raju said that Malmepa has confessed that Sohan is investing money in buying land, coal trade and setting up other business establishment. However, he failed to disclose bank details of Sohan.

“Malmepa said that money collected by Sohan is kept with his wife Chiruma and her brothers. He also disclosed that Sohan has converted GNLA into his family business”, Raju informed.

Raju informed that police is verifying all inputs to confiscate terror funds amassed by Sohan and his family members.

In another raid, Meghalaya police arrested one hardcore GNLA cadre and one civilian during raids at Durama area last night. The cadre has been identified as Salsrang Ch. Marak, 22 alias Mogo.

Dacoity gang busted: In a pre-dawn raids conducted in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills, a dacoity gang was busted by police today. Six members of the gang were apprehended from different locations under Tikrikilla police station.

The police conducted raids at Megapara, Rengsinpara, Rabhagre, Dobok Jakolgre, Khagrakgre and Cheran Apal villages.

“All the six members have admitted that they were involved in kidnapping and extortion”, said GHP Raju, inspector general of police (operations).

The arrested persons are – Killipson Sangma, Krilbirth Ch. Sangma, Karson Ch. Sangma, Loking Ch. Sangma, Rongnen Ch. Sangma and Gobithar Marak.

Police recovered four 9 mm pistols, one 9mm magazines, 15 rounds 9mm ammunition and one SBML gun.-From Our Correspondent
