TURA, MAR 28: While thanking the public for their co-operation during the two-day government office strike across Garo hills, the GNLA has asked the Garo Students Union to stand up for students cause as it said that police are implicating students as militants and arresting them.
In a release issued on Saturday, the GNLA said about the two days government office strike, “Public support demonstrates that they too want real justice, so they have overwhelmingly supported us”.
The outfit’s release also stated that the strike was called to pressurize the state government to take action and suspend the erring police officer and surrendered GNLA cadre Mingran Sangma, who had carried out the fake encounter at Oragitok.
The outfit also asked the Garo Students Union to stand up for the cause of students as police are implicating young students as militants and were arresting them. It said, “If they remain mute spectators what will be the future of young students? If they fail to stand by the student community what are the use of being leaders?”
“Arresting innocent people and killing them by police shall not be tolerated any more”, the GNLA added.
The GNLA also stated that the indefinite bandh at Ampati in South West Garo Hills will continue unless and until government takes corrective steps to stop “fake encounter” and “police highhandedness”.
However, the bandh will be relaxed on March 2 to April 6 on account of Good Friday and Easter celebration.- From Our Correspondent
