GNLA leader escapes from Tura jail

jailbreakSHILLONG, AUG 17: Garo National Liberation Council (GNLA) Chokpot area commander Kennedy Sangma made a dramatic and daring escape from the Tura jail at around 8 pm on Saturday. He stringed together bed sheets and escaped by climbing up the jail wall.

Kennedy Sangma had been jailed under the MPDA. One jail warder who is a temporary appointee has immediately been dismissed while two other warders have been placed under suspension pending inquiry.

Meghalaya DGP (Prison)Prem Singh told this website that massive police operation is on to nab the militant leader. He informed that the police are trying their best to located the militant leader who managed to escape by climbing up the prison wall with the help of bed sheets which he stringed together.

However, it is still unclear as to how the militant leader got so many bed sheets to string together and climb up the wall. It is also strange that nobody saw him climbing up the prison wall when it was just around 8 pm that he escaped.

Singh said that he is also waiting for detail report as to how Kennedy Sangma managed to escape and what were the prison staff doing at that particular time.- By Our Reporter
