SHILLONG, JULY 19: East Garo hills security forces shot dead GNLA lance corporal Pilon M Sangma in an encounter and recovered one AK 47 rifle with three magazines, one US made .45 colt pistol with seventeen rounds, one grenade, two wireless set, GNLA identity card and incriminating documents from him on Friday.
The encounter took place at Bangsamgre village in East Garo Hills at the hideout of GNLA commander Jimmy Momin at Bangsamgre village.East Garo Hills SP JFK Marak informed that that police, SWAT and cobra raided the hideout which is about 25 kilometres from Williamnagar.
During the operation, an encounter took place that lasted for three hours and Sangma was killed.
The police raided the place after it got intelligence inputs of the presence of the GNLA cadres in the village.
On Thursday the East Garo hills police on Thursday had intercepted and seized arms and ammunitions of the GNLA at Chinabat from a Scorpio and also arrested one person in this connection.- By Our Reporter
