GNLA-R member among six arrested for involving in kidnapping cases in SGH

A member of the Garo National Liberation Army – Regrouped (GNLA-R), who was also the mastermind of various kidnapping cases in South Garo Hills, was arrested from a remote village in East Garo Hills District on Monday.

Acting on reliable source information, Rongsrang M Sangma (29) of Gittingre village, South Garo Hills, who was the main mastermind of various kidnapping cases took place under South Garo Hills District in the recent past is apprehended at Rapdikgre village under Williamnagar police station, East Garo Hills District, South Garo Hills SP Shailendra Bamaniya said in a statement on Tuesday.

Earlier police have arrested five accused persons involved in the kidnapping cases and they have been identified as Wilban M Sangma, Withmil S Marak, Sengsrang ChM arak, Tengsrang Ch Marak and Aiber N Sangma.

With Rongsrang’s arrest, all six accused persons involved in kidnapping cases have been apprehended, Bamaniya said.

He further informed that during the investigation it has been established that Rongsrang M Sangma is one of the members of GNLA (R) and on behalf of GNLA (R) he was executing kidnapping and extortion in South Garo Hills District.

“With the arrest of all the six accused from South Garo Hills the entire kidnapping gang of the district is busted,” the SP stated.
