GNLA use kids: Dube

SHILLONG, JAN 8: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) member Yogesh Dube said the banned the banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) is recruiting youths and indoctrinating them at their training camps.

Dube told reporters Tuesday, “Some of the recruits happen to be teenagers of impressionable age, who are lured by GNLA by offering money.”

Speaking about another modus operandi employed by the GNLA Dube said the outfit uses children, including school students, as informers and couriers.  He informed these children are provided with mobile phones and monetary allowances to act as informers so that they can inform about movement of police and security forces.

Dubey, however, said the situation was under constant watch of the authorities concerned. He informed that the state police department has assured that a high level inquiry will be conducted on the matter

The commission has suggested for sensitization of traditional village heads and citizens urging them to keep a close watch on children and minors so that they do not become victims of machinations of militant groups.- By Our Reporter
