SHILLONG, JULY 2: One gold biscuit worth more than 3.5 lakhs was recovered by the border security force (BSF) personnel along the Indo-Bangla international border in East Khasi Hills District.
The seizure was made after a packet fell on the ground while a suspected smuggler, who was illegally entering the Indian Territory, was escaping back to Bangladesh on seeing the BSF party.
According to BSF officials, the smuggler tried to retrieve the packet but could not due to swift action by BSF troops.
On searching the area, one gold biscuit weighing 100 gms was recovered from the plastic packet.
Two days ago, the BSF has also seized 2 gold biscuits from the same area.
Officials said that it seems that these Gold biscuits are being smuggled from Bangladesh to Indian territory in lieu of cattle.
Meanwhile, BSF has stepped up its special drive against the smugglers and intensified its operations on the Indo-Bangladesh Border to prevent nefarious design of trans-border criminal to maintain tranquillity in bordering areas of Meghalaya state.
Seized items handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
