Govt fails to appoint teachers: Mukul

SHILLONG, NOV 16: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Wednesday slammed the MDA government for failing to appoint teachers thereby forcing schools to close down in rural areas of the state.

Addressing an AITC block meeting at Phulbari in West Garo Hills District, Mukul said, “It is being heard that the MDA government is not recruiting teachers anymore. They have closed schools in the rural areas. I am someone who was educated in a rural school. My existence depends on the existence of the schools.”

Concerning the plights of underprivileged children under the MDA government’s insensitive rule, he added, “The underprivileged children can gain so much from the mere existence of schools in rural areas as a support system for their growth. The incumbent dispensation is one who shuns education!”

Further cornering the NPP-led MDA government on the infrastructural collapse, Mukul reminded the audience about his Chief Ministerial tenure, “During my tenure in 2011, I completed all PMGSY roads. PMGSY was constructed by the then state government, because the Govt of India couldn’t provide sufficient funding. We signed an agreement with the World Bank in 2011, to facilitate funding for the PMGSY roads.”

Taking a jibe at the MDA government for its reluctance in recruiting the youth, Mukul commented, “It is proven that the intention they have no intention to take cognizance of the aspirations of our youth. Our youth must be appointed to fulfil the vacancies.”

Supporting Dr. Mukul Sangma’s causes, Meghalaya TMC MDC Balachanda, Agassi Marak commented, “Dr. Sangma is teaching us to step in a new direction, to bring positive change in the state.”
