Govt releases Rs 60 Cr for clearing 2 months’ salary of SSA teachers

SHILLONG, APR 5: The state government has released Rs 60 crore for clearing the two months’ pending salary of over 12,541 SSA teachers in the state.

Informing this on Tuesday, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said, “(As) promised by me, the government has released Rs 60 crore on March 26, for payment of two months’ salary of the SSA teachers. It must have reached the districts and they must have distributed (it already).”

Rymbui further informed that the Government of India has also released Rs 68 crore for clearing another two months’ pending salary of the SSA teachers.

“This will also be released within this month,” he said while adding altogether four out of five months’ pending salary of the SSA teachers will be cleared by the government.

This also came after the Meghalaya SSA Schools’ Association (MSSASA) had threatened to resort to massive protest if the state government fails to release the pending salary before March 25.

On March 2, SSA teachers also took out to the streets protesting against the inordinate delay to release their pending salary.
