SHILLONG, JAN 27: The Meghalaya government is considering incorporating Inner Line Permit (ILP)-like provisions in the new Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Tuesday.
The proposal is being reviewed by the Advocate General and legal experts, Tynsong told reporters.
Addressing allegations that the government has abandoned the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 (MRSSA), Tynsong said, “MRSSA is partly being implemented. We are functioning under MRSSA.”
He pointed out that district task forces headed by deputy commissioners are operational and being strengthened.

Tynsong explained that the original MRSSA lacked provisions for setting up entry-exit points, leading to the amendment Bill being referred to the Home Ministry.

“We implement MRSSA, but legally, we can’t set up entry-exit points as the original Act doesn’t provide for it,” he said.
