Govt still examining CSD demand

SHILLONG, SEPT 24: Home minister James K Sangma today said the the state government is still examining the demand for upgradation of Laskein block into a civil sub-division (CSD).

Replying to a query raised by UDP legislator Nujorki Sungoh in the Assembly here on Monday, Sangma said the government had constituted the task force committee (TFC) which examine the creation of new districts and civil sub-divisions in the state.

According to him, the recommendations made by the TFC (for consideration) are based on the extend of the area,    population, distance from the existing district, education and health services, public convenient, connectivity and availability of funds.

Stating that the availability of fund is very important, the home minister said that indepth study on this regard has to be done before taking a decision on the matter.

“While appreciating the aspiration of the people, I only like to plead for their kind patience as we will take up the matter with the finance commission so that the aspiration of the people can be achieved,” Sangma assured.

Earlier, Sungoh questioned on the delay of the government to consider the proposal for upgrading Laskein being the oldest block in Jaintia Hills region into a civil sub-division.

“The request for a civil sub-division has been made from time to time in 1993, 2006 and 2012 but till now no action has been taken,” he said while requesting the Chief Minister and the government to intervene into the matter.

On this, the home minister admitted that Laskein block is the second most populated block in Jaintia Hills region but however said the reason for the delay may be because the state government in the past have not taken up the matter, which is now being examined by the present state government.

Meanwhile, Sangma informed that there are as many as 12 demands for civil sub-divisions received by the government.
