Govt to speed up peace talks with HNLC: CM

SHILLONG, AUG 30: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the government is trying to speed up the process to start the peace talks with banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

“Things are on track. We are moving in the right direction and we are trying to speed up the process as much as possible…,” Sangma told reporters when responding to a query that five leaders of the HNLC have recently arrived in the state for the peace talks.

Stating that their arrival was part of the process, the chief minister however said, “We have to understand that things don’t happen immediately as there are lots of concerns from all sides and which are very genuine of course. Therefore, we need to take all those concerns into mind and then take the talks forward.”

Asserting the need to realize that this is a complicated process, Sangma said, “We need to take everybody into confidence, build up the confidence as we move along…”

Meanwhile, the chief minister has further expressed, “Things have been initiated and I am very sure and confident that we will be able to take this discussion also to its logical conclusion.”
