SHILLONG, MAY 23: Meghalaya home minister Roshan Wajri informed that the state government is still examining the issue of proposed setting up of the ANVC(B)  designated camps eve as she said that the government has directed for re-deployment of security personnel in the Kyrshai police outpost in West Khasi Hills District.

Warjri told the KSU delegation that met her to discuss the proposed setting up of designated camp in West Khasi hills district on Friday, “The state government is yet to take any decision so far as the designated camps for the cadres of the Achik National Volunteer Council – Breakaway (ANVC.B) is concerned.”

Warjri informed the delegations that the deputy commissioners who were earlier directed to identify the ‘suitable-locations’ for the purpose have submitted their reports.  She, however, said, “The reports are still under examination.”  She refuse to acknowledge that there were any move to set up the camp in Aradonga village in West Khasi Hills District.

In a letter submitted to Warjri, the KSU – West Khasi Hills District Unit expressed its opposition to the proposed camp saying it will only bring insecurity and create fear psychosis in the mind of the people of the region besides creating misunderstanding and clash between two communities.

“The union feels that the purpose of the government to set up the camp in the region will only pave way for the youths to join and form many insurgent groups,” KSU-WKHDU president, John F Nongsiang said.

Nongsaiang also felt that the camps will only encourage other Garos insurgent outfits  which has now started to extort money and move freely in many coal rich area and markets situated in the area like Maweit, Shallang, Umdang, Riangdo, and Langrin area of the district to increase its activities in the district.

The KSU central body delegation led by its general secretary Auguster Jyrwa also told reporters that the union had also requested the minister to find suitable location within Garo hills region.

The home minister assured the delegation that the state government will take everything into consideration before taking a decision on the issue”

Sources from the home department informed that  the deputy commissioners who were asked to locate suitable locations for setting up the camps includes DC of East Garo Hills district, South Garo Hills district, West Khasi Hills district and South West Khasi Hills district.

On the demand to re-establish the Kyrshai police outpost, Warjri informed the government has issued an order for re-deployment of the security personnel. She said, “We had directed the Home Guard and Civil Defence department to immediately re-deploy security personnel and they had left today to resume their duty in Kyrshai outpost.”

Warjri claimed that the withdrawal of the security personnel by the department from Kyrshai was because of some communication gap. The KSU delegations appreciated Warjri’s initiative to re-deployment security forces to the border outpost will protect and safeguard the people living in the border area.- By Our Reporter

Just call for PEACE talks…I fail to understand why Govt is adamant in calling for peace talks of all Non State actors..this is unbecoming of a democratic Copuntry/State…those who do not want let them spell out to the public their ideologies because many of the people may not agree…Govt too has to spell out clearly why they do not want to call for peace talks..what is behind the Govts hesitance to call for peace talks…who runs the show??Lets not play the divide and Rule Policy…When we were separated from Assam what did we get? A MAPLESS State after 42 years, with imaginary boundaries….If we think for the people, why need camps …people will not harm us if we do good. If they still want to harm why be scared? lets bring about peace so we can all concentrate on the rampant corruption that is sickening and ailing the society…..Look at the corruption in all departments and at the same time business entities taking advantage of Price rise…all in the name of pleasing one or the other while public bear the brunt….
