SHILLONG, JUNE 7:  The Passing Out Parade of Recruit Batch No 165 was carried out at 58 Gorkha Training Centre on Saturday in which 241 Recruits of 5 and 8 Gorkha Rifles took the oath of affirmation at the parade ground in the training centre.

Brigadier Manohar Thomas, Commandant 58 Gorkha Training Centre reviewed the colourful parade and exhorted the young soldiers to be the finest soldiers of the Indian Army.  Recruit Kumar Bohora was adjudged as the ‘Overall Best Recruit’ and was awarded the‘Manekshaw Khukri’.  Recruit Kamal Gurung was adjudged the Best Recruit of 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) and was awarded the ‘Zorawar Khukri’ and Recruit Recruit Bishnu Prasad Gurung was adjudged the Best Recruit of 8 Gorkha Rifles and was awarded the‘Dutta Trophy’.

The parents of the young soldiers were also honoured with the ‘Gaurav Padak’ to commemorate their contribution to the nation.

The glittering ceremony concluded with a cultural programme comprising of Khukri Dance, Military Band Display, Aerobics Display and a Manipuri Cultural Dance by Sports Cadets of Boys Sports Company, organised for the parents of the passing out recruits.- By Our Reporter
