Green umbrella march of students in Tura

TURA, JUNE 10: In an effort to inculcate green ideas among the children and sensitize the mass about environmental concerns, a unique umbrella march was held at Tura on Friday.

At least 1000 students from different schools of Tura including organisations working for environment took part in the march. The students displayed placards hooked to the umbrella seeking public awareness for a greener earth.

There were many, who had decorated their umbrella with leaves and carried cartoon characters to spread the message of a green and clean earth.

Swacch Bharat Mission and other line department of the government supported the programme conceptualized by Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion (IBDLP) programme.

The march culminated with a green volunteers conclave held at district auditorium in Tura. The participants took a pledge for balance “eco-system”. The green ambassadors pledged to keep the surrounding clean and green.

The deputy commissioner of West Garo Hills Pravin Bakshi felicitated green ambassadors during the programme. Speaking on the occasion deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi exhorted the students on the changing climate of Garo Hills.

He reminded the gathering that the climate change is a major concern all over the world. Speaking at length on different environmental issues, he urged that it was each ones responsibility to ensure contribution to make the earth a green heaven.-From Our  Correspondent
