GSMC seek govt’s help

SHILLONG, MAR 30: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has sought the intervention of the minister in-charge food & civil supplies James K Sangma into the acute shortage of essential commodities in South Garo Hills District in view of the COVID-19 lockdown.

“The impact of nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of covid19 in India and vis-a-vis, sealing of inter-state borders is being heavily felt in the South Garo Hills District as esteemed consumers have been facing acute shortage of essential commodities ever since the imposition of 21-day long lockdown,” GSMC chairman Nikman Marak said in a memorandum to Sangma.

He said the local populace is grappling with the ongoing crisis to the best of their ability but to no avail. Marak urge the minister to look into the matter in such a way that the crisis can be mitigated in time and the impending danger of hunger shall in no way superceded the contagion of COVID-19
