Guv assures of his assent to VAB soon

SHILLONG, SEPT 1: Meghalaya governor V Shanmuganathan assured Meghalaya district council minister HDR Lyngdoh and KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem that he will soon give his assent to Village Administration Bills that seeks to empower the traditional chiefs and headmen in Khasi and Jaintia hills as he said that the process of examining the bill is nearly complete.

The assurance was given to Lyngdoh and Syiem during their meeting with the governor at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. Both of them termed the meeting with the governor as positive and hoped that the KHAD (Village Administration) Bill, 2015 will soon become an Act when it get’s the governor’s nod.

“He (Shanmuganathan) said that only 10 per cent is left for him to complete the process of examining the VABs and accordingly grant his assent,” KHADC chief PN Syiem told newsmen after the meeting. He said with this assurance they are happy that 90 per cent of the job is completed.

When asked what are the issues the governor is left to examine, Syiem said the governor informed that he would have to seek some more legal opinion before giving his final decision.- By Our Reporter
