SHILLONG, DEC 13: Meghalaya governor KK Paul lamented that children these days do not like to read books and are often glued to television and games which he felt is a serious cause for concern. He said children are creative and can come up with new ideas as they are rich in imagination.
Inaugurating the Junior Calm Creative Arts & Literature Festival, 2013 on Friday, Paul also suggested setting up of call center and also music studio for creation of job opportunities in these two fields which the state excels. He said lots of youths from Meghalaya and north east are working in the BPOs in and around New Delhi.
Paul said, “We have a natural advantage why can’t we bring the BPOs here or create an atmosphere where the companies set up BPOs here.” He also felt as the state has tremendous potential in music, recording studios should be set up here where youths can re-mix the songs in a legal ways and bring livelihood to the state.
Earlier Meghalaya chief secretary WMS Pariat expressed concern over the slide-down of Meghalaya as the education hub of the northeast as it was earlier renowned as the centre of education.
Pariat also felt that in this modern era of stiff competition students need to be put their best foot forward and make a point.
The two day festival also includes fancy dress competition, counseling for youths and others.
A book fair for children is also one of the event and the ‘Khmih Shillong Group’ that made its way to the India’s Got Talent also performed on the opening day of the festival.- By Our Reporter
