SHILLONG, APR 29: So of the Assam Rifles personnel were conferred with the Governor’s Gold and Silver medals by
Meghalaya, governor V Shanmuganathan at the  Shillong Raj Bhavan on Friday during an impressive investiture ceremony.
The Governor’s Gold and Silver Medals were given to personnel for recognition to their meritorious service and acts of bravery in counter terrorist operations.
The ceremony, which was witnessed by number of civil and military dignitaries, and presided over by the governor, The awards was given to 15 selected personnel of the force.
The Governor’s Gold & Silver Medal was instituted in the year 1957 and are awarded as a recognition for acts of gallantry and meritorious service by the soldiers of Assam Rifles in the north eastern states and is highly respected in the force.
During his address, the Governor praised the yeoman service and dedication to duty shown by the Assam Rifles while operating in the rugged and inhospitable terrain conditions of the north east. He  also paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices made by the gallant soldiers of Assam Rifles and exhorted them to continue the excellent work being done.
The ceremony concluded with the award winners and attendees being invited for tea at the Raj Bhawan wherein the Governor interacted with one and all present.-By Our Reporter .
