SHILLONG, JULY 3: The Special Operation Team (SOT) arrested Hynniewtrep A`chik National Movement (HANM) president Lamphrang Kharbani and booked him under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 on Wednesday. It is alleged that he had offered money to a lady to the company of her 13 years old daughter. East Khasi hills Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem said Kharbani was arrested under Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POCFSO) Act, 2012 and Sec 5(1)(a) of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act (ITPA).
Syiem also said the Lumdiengjri police station had registered a case against Kharbani based on the FIR lodge by Caroline Nongrum, sister of Susan Nongrum and the girl’s mother, who is a former HANM secretary.
In the FIR Caroline has alleged that on June 29 at around 8 pm , Kharbani phone her sister Susan in her mobile phone and offered her money if she allows her thirteen years old daughter to go with him in one of the government Inspection Bungalow (IB).
It is alleged that Kharbani offered any amount if the girl was allowed to go with him.
As soon as police got the FIR the SOT launched a search for Kharbani, arrested him and brought him to the police station for investigation. Syiem said as the girl is a minor, it becomes a serious offence to offer money for her company.- By Our Reporter
