Hanneman new state DGP

SHILLONG, JULY 5: Peter Hanneman,a 1979batch IPS officer, has been appointed as Meghalaya’s new Director General of Police (DGP). He succeeds outgoing acting DGP Prem Singh who had been appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) just before the Meghalaya assembly election early this year.

Prem Singh has gone back to DGP (Prison) as Kulbir Kishan has been removed from the post after the Shillong district jail squabble wherein the GNLA chairman Champion and five of the Under Trial Prisoners (UTPs) were injured. Kishan is now holding the post of DG (home guards and civil defence).

Hanneman was on central deputation with the Special Bureau of the union government and has now been repatriate back to his parent Assam-Meghalaya cadre and been posted in his home state.

A winner of several commendations and medals including the President’s Medal for meritorious service, Hanaman also holds the distinction of being the only officer of his cadre to have served in all the three hill regions of the state – Khasi, Jaintia and Garo.
