Heavy rain forecast in GH

SHILLONG, JUNE 9: West Garo hills deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi informed that the metrological department and state revenue department have warned of heavy to extreme rainfall in isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya’s Garo hills districts .

In statement issued on Tuesday Bakshi informed that the district administration has immediately informed and transmitted the weather forecast to all C&RD blocks and advised the BDOs to remain in station and alert for any emergency.

Bakshi said, “All police stations and outposts also have been forewarned as they are invariably the first responders along with magistrates in the blocks.”  He informed that the district administration also shared the input with all concerned line departments , home guards & civil defence and DIPR for wide publicity of the weather conditions and possibility of rains .

Bakshi said that there has been a recent stock taking of POL in the district in all the retail POL outlets and sufficient buffer stock is there . He also said in the market assessment has been done for the stock of foodgrain and that also is satisfactory.

Medical teams especially in PHCs and CHCs have been alerted and asked to be cautious, he said adding key line departments like MePDCL and PWD Roads also have been forewarned and informed.

Bakshi assured that the district administration is ready for any contingency and the emergency operations centre will be made operational in one hour notice in case of floods and then it shall be operational 24X7.- By Our Reporter
