HNLC claims blast

SHILLONG, JAN 28: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Thursday claimed responsibility for the recent powerful blast at Ladrymbai area in East Jaintia hills District even as it questioned the failure of the state police to solve the alleged three cases of IED explosion in the region.

“Once we start then there shall be no turning back. The police department should not underestimate us, we might not kill people but we have the capacity to do so, like our counterparts do in Garo hills,” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the outfit, the powerful blast at Ladrymbai which took place on the afternoon of January 26, was the third IED explosion, which police have however claim otherwise. Stating that after 3 blasts, the police are not able to ascertain the nature of the explosions, Nongtraw questioned how long shall the police department keep the people in the dark?

“It is a matter of great concern to the police department of Meghalaya, as they have not been able to solve three cases of IED in the region,” he alleged.

While the outfit claims that the first IED blast took place in Jaintia hills in 2012 whereby two  migant labourers died and 15 others injured with splinter injuries, the second incident was referred to blast at Jhalupara which happened last year.

“It (Jhalupara incident) shook the nearby buildings but nobody was injured neither died, because the blast took place at a time when no people were around.

The blast could have consumed and injured a lot of lives,” Nongtraw claimed.

He went on to further claim that IED which went off at Lad rymbai on January 26 had caused no injuries to people but the impact had damaged the window panes of buildings nearby. “What would have happened if the IED went off on a busy day,” he said adding “Many people especially migrants would have lost their lives.”

Meanwhile, the HNLC has also termed the recent rally taken out by the RSS in the state’s capital as an attempt by outside forces to spoil the demography of the region.

“The recent parade of the RSS in the heart of the city and in Garo hills signifies that outside forces are trying to spoil the demography of our region. The inter migration into the Hynñiewtrep is enough to prove that all outsiders are exploiting us and our people,” the statement stated.- By Our Reporter
